The ranking of a consumer portal shows how much food prices have really risen.

Berlin - The inflation rate in Germany jumped to 7.9 percent in May 2022, its highest level in almost 50 years.

There is no relief in sight.

This increase in prices is making things difficult for consumers, since everyday products have also become significantly more expensive.

This is actually the time of the discounters.

People shop more often at Aldi, Lidl & Co, avoid expensive branded items and pay more attention to special offers.

But the calculation doesn't seem to add up.

The discounters have also tightened the price screw, as an analysis by the consumer

shows.

For the ranking, the prices of more than 50 private label products in a randomly selected Berlin discounter were collected on March 23, 2022 and May 19, 2022.

Based on this, the ten products with the highest price increase were identified.

Food is becoming more and more expensive: organic butter has the highest price increase

The ranking shows impressively how much the prices have skyrocketed.

According to the evaluation, the price of organic butter rose from EUR 2.29 to EUR 2.99 during the observation period.

With an increase of 30.57 percent, the product recorded the largest price increase.

This is followed by slices of own-brand salami, which is on the shelves in a 130-gram pack.

Their price increased from 1.39 euros to 1.79 euros, which corresponds to a price increase of 28.78 percent.

A private label shampoo in a 500 milliliter pack cost EUR 0.95 instead of the previous EUR 0.75.

That is an increase of 26.67 percent.

In fourth place is Black Forest ham in the 80-gram pack.

The price of the groceries increased from 1.19 euros to 1.49 euros, which means that the price rose by 25.21 percent.

It was similar with Gouda middle-aged.

While 300 grams of the cheese cost EUR 1.99 in March, it was EUR 2.49 in May, an increase of 25.13 percent.

Groceries are becoming more and more expensive: retail prices are lagging behind actual price increases

However, according to a study by Allianz Trade, the end of the road does not seem to have been reached yet.

"Food retail prices are far from reflecting the actual increase in food prices over the past 18 months," Allianz Trade industry expert Aurélien Duthoit said, according to AFP news agency.
