The referendums on justice have marked the negative record of participation, with a final figure of turnout of less than 21% of those entitled.
But the "actual" figure of participation may have been even lower: according to a YouTrend elaboration on the data released by the Ministry of the Interior, excluding the municipalities in which it was also voted for administrative elections, the turnout for referendums was 14.7%.
The final overall figure was "dragged" over 20% because where there was also a vote for mayors and municipal councils (just under 1,000 municipalities), 50.9% of those entitled to collect the ballots for referendum questions .
In other words,
The "driving" of the local elections on the referendums did not only have the effect of increasing the turnout.
Another consequence was, in fact, the exponential increase in invalid votes (blank, null and contested ballots) in the municipalities where the mayor was also voted.
In these municipalities, according to the data of the Ministry of the Interior relating to the first question, processed by YouTrend, the invalid cards were 13.7% of those deposited in the polls, almost 20% in provincial capitals such as Barletta and Messina .
To get an idea of the enormity of this figure, just think that, in the municipalities where the administrative authorities did not vote, the invalid votes were only 2.4%.
