Due to heavy rain and flooding, Yellowstone National Park in the United States has been closed to all visitors until further notice.

The park administration spoke on Monday of "record floods" that damaged or washed away roads and bridges.

She also warned of falling rocks, mudslides and "extremely dangerous conditions" in the park.

Numerous people were brought to safety and the entrances were closed.

The National Park Service is trying to reach visitors and staff who are still in different locations.

In particular, it is about the hardest hit northern part.

“We won't know when the park will reopen until the floodwaters have receded and we can assess the damage throughout the park,” the park administration said.

The park will definitely remain closed until at least Wednesday.

Yellowstone National Park is almost entirely in the state of Wyoming, but stretches as far as Idaho and Montana.

The floods and landslides were triggered by days of torrential rain in the region.

Added to this was meltwater.

Park officials described the rainfall and flooding as unprecedented.
