This is how she says thank you.

South Carolina (USA) – “Pepples” has seen a lot in her long life.

The Toy Fox Terrier bitch from the US state of South Carolina has set a record: the dog granny has received the title of "oldest dog in the world".

It has been in the Guinness Book of Records since May 17, 2022.

In addition, the old dog lady received a certificate, which she is now celebrating with her owner and many fans online.

On this special day, "Pepples" turned exactly 22 years and 50 days old.

The little terrier has thus reached biblical dog age and replaced the 21-year-old Chihuahua Toby Keity from Florida as the oldest dog in the world.

Peple's owner Julie Gregory celebrates this special occasion by snapping a hilarious photo of the dog granny and posting it on Instagram.

For the happy occasion, Gregory has put a pink bow on her ear, the dog looks at the camera with big eyes.

Pepples, who was born on March 28, 2000 and has been living with Gregory ever since, is old but still in the best of health.

Accordingly, her owner is said to have revealed to the US television station "ABC News" that the terrier bitch sleeps a lot and likes to listen to folk music.

Is that Pepple's recipe for old age?

Proud dog grandma: Healthy into old age

At least it sounds like Pepples is looking forward to her old age in a relaxed manner.

And that's completely normal too.

Because a senior dog needs more rest.

Eventually it degrades over time, losing strength and muscles and senses fading.

By the way: How old a dog can get does not only depend on its state of health.

However, it is generally the case that smaller dogs live longer than larger conspecifics.

This is because they grow more slowly when they are puppies.

Puppies of large dog breeds, on the other hand, grow very quickly and also put on a lot of weight.

Nevertheless, dog owners should generally ensure that older four-legged friends are still allowed to exercise and play sufficiently.
