"Squid Game The Challenge": Netflix launches a reality show based on the phenomenon series

2022-06-15T11:03:12.344Z

The Netflix platform has just launched a casting call to recruit 456 participants (as in fiction), who will compete to win

“The stakes are high, but in this game, the worst that can happen is to go home empty-handed.

“We suspected that in a real competition, Netflix was not going to kill the candidates, but precision is still important.

Because in "Squid Game", the South Korean series which broke viewing records on the platform in the fall of 2021, over-indebted candidates competed in tests inspired by children's games and each elimination was synonymous with dead.

While Netflix has just confirmed the order for a season 2 – the rumor has already been circulating for months – the streaming giant created more surprise this Tuesday evening by announcing the development of “Squid Game: The Challenge”.

"Who will you betray in this ultimate personality test?"

On the recruitment page appears this message: "With the highest number of participants in the history of reality television, 456 very real players will participate in the game in the quest for a sum of money that will change their lives: 4.56 millions of dollars.

Three categories are available for casting: one reserved for Americans, one for the British and one for all other countries in the world.

By clicking on the link corresponding to each person's situation, new details appear: "You have seen the series, now is your chance to participate in Netflix's greatest social experience.

This enormously sized reality show turns fiction into reality.

Speak English and be over 21

To register, you must therefore speak English, be at least 21 years old and be available for four weeks of filming at the beginning of 2023 (no precise date or place are given).

You must also send a one-minute video to introduce yourself and explain your motivations for participating in “Squid Game: The Challenge”.

This exploitation of the “Squid Game” brand is a boon for Netflix, which has already earned $1 billion in revenue from the series, for a production cost of $21 million, according to figures provided by The Guardian.

The cynicism surrounding this operation is all the greater given that the original fiction is an acerbic criticism of the current world where the capitalist system is dehumanizing society.

However, there is no doubt that “Squid Game: The Challenge” should register an incredible number of applications.
