Wortman, the family winery located in the city of Haifa, is one of the most sympathetic and high-quality wineries in the local industry.

Its beautiful visitor center is located in a residential neighborhood on the Carmel, in the family home overlooking the sea.

One of his vineyards is located right at the foot of the family home and others in the Shfeya Valley, at the foot of the Carmel.

The operation itself is operated by winemaker and owner, Chai Wortman, downtown.

Wortman wines are declared Mediterranean, with a clear reluctance to make red "Bordeaux" wines and a clear preference for both southern French varieties originally, even white ones.

Wortman's work radiates restraint, loyalty to the variety and trout and his wines are successful, full of character and many of them are unconventional and suitable, most of them, including the red ones, for the Israeli summer.

It is better to get acquainted with these wines for those who have not yet met.

The wines are available on the winery's website.

for life!

Wortman, Mount Carmel 2017 (Photo: PR)

Wortman, Mount Carmel 2017

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

53% Merlot, 27% Carignan and 20% Petit Verdot from a vineyard in the Shfeya Valley.

Short fermentation in stainless steel.

Some of the wine stayed for 10 months in oak barrels and lined in stainless steel tanks.

Bright red color.

In the nose red, black fruit, spices and herbs.

Light-medium body.

13% alcohol by volume.

Some?

80 shekels.

Best for:

Mediterranean food of all kinds, "on the fire".

What the reviewer said:

A kind of "opening wine" for Wortman reds that has a lot of lightness, pleasantness and accessibility.

It is relatively rounded (merlot) and immediately spicy (Carignan) and has, alongside accessibility, also a degree of fun rustic earthy roughness, which makes it, after all, a not really flattering wine.

It can be enjoyed absolutely even on really hot days even when it is chilled.

Value for money:

4/5 (very good).

In three words:

summer red.

Wortman, Semyon 2020

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

85% Semyon combined with 15% Sauvignon Blanc from an organic vineyard in the Shfeya Valley.

12 weeks of natural fermentation on wild yeast and nine-month aging in French and Hungarian oak barrels, with manual mixing of the precipitate.

Straw golden color.

In the nose white fruit, citrus and flowers.

Medium body.

12% alcohol by volume.

Some?

95 shekels.

Best for:

fish and seafood.

Every dairy meal.

What the reviewer said:

Dry white is excellent with a surprising degree of minerality, Rabbi de Provence's touch on the palate, some honey and a hint of smoking.

Strain strain is really excellent.

Value for money:

4.5 / 5 (excellent).

In ten words:

a charming white that will suit any relationship in the summer that will soon excite us.

Wortman, White Levant 2021

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

60% Rosen and 40% Claret.

12 weeks of natural fermentation, common to both varieties and a total of four months of barrel. Straw golden color. Mineral and floral nose. Medium body. 12% alcohol by volume.

How much?

110 shekels.

Best for:

fish and seafood.

What the reviewer says

: , Very floral, somewhat perfumed, relatively accessible and very, very tasty.

Value for money:

3.5 / 5 (good).

In four words:

mineral white, floral and fragrant.

Wortman, Red Levant 2018 (Photo: PR)

Wortman, Red Levant 2018

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

50% Carignan, 36% Grenache and 14% Morvader from an organic vineyard Shfeya at the foot of the Carmel.

Two-week fermentation in stainless steel tanks with manual mixing.

14 months aging in large wooden barrels (400-500 liters).

Very dark red color.

In the nose red and black fruit, spices (black pepper!) And flowers.

Medium body.

13% alcohol by volume.

Some?

110 shekels.

Best for:

Steaks, "on the fire".

What the reviewer said:

Complex and very Mediterranean, with plenty of seasoning, restrained fruit and a clear degree of earthy rusticity on the palate.

Sometimes there are even hints of tapenade.

A clear elegance that does not eliminate the degree of roughness.

A true Mediterranean village wine that in France would be called "bistro wine" at its best.

Great pleasure.

Value for money:

4/5 (very good).

In five words:

a real Mediterranean bistro wine.

Wortman, Pat Nate Rosa 2021 (Photo: PR)

Wortman, Pat Nate Rosa 2021

Without a few words about astringency it is impossible:

a naturally sparkling rose based on Petit Verdot grapes.

Early separation of the juice from the skins.

1 weeks natural fermentation in stainless steel.

Bottling while fermenting and continuing and finishing it in bottles.

A total of 8 months in containers and bottles before release to the market. Pink color. Clear nose, fruity, mineral and funky. Medium body. 12% alcohol by volume.

How much?

NIS 120.

Most suitable for:

meals based on fish and seafood but also certain meat meals - Food from the Galilee-Arab cuisine will enjoy this wine very

much .

"Natural" means wine that ferments on wild yeast with no added sulfur at all.

This is the ancient method that originated in Limo in the south of France.

"Pat Nate" in French means natural fermentation.

Pat Nat wines usually do not comply with the classic rules of taste but are considered funky. This funkiness can be felt, as mentioned, already in the smell of this wine. It lasts in the palate. It is completely different from rosé. A degree of restraint and elegance. Not wine for every palate, but those who love such wines will die for it.

Value for money: 2.5 / 5 (realistic).

In five words:

"Pat Nat", and the ruin of Mount Carmel.
