Hidden inlets, dreamy coves, long sandy beaches, wide basins and isolated ravines: this year there are 14 new Blue Flags assigned to Italy for the quality of water and facilities.

For 36 years, the international NGO Fee (Foundation for Environmental Education) has been evaluating seaside and lake resorts on the basis of criteria such as water quality, the efficiency of sewage purification, separate waste collection, pedestrian areas, cycle paths. , street furniture and green areas.

Among the novelties of this edition is the inclusion of a new parameter:

social commitment and inclusiveness

, which is why the

Dynamo Camp

Foundation was involved , which offers recreational therapy programs to children and adolescents suffering from chronic diseases and their families.

This year the municipalities awarded the recognition

rise to 210 overall

, 9 more than last year, and 14 are the new award-winning locations, where you can take a dip or simply enjoy the beauty of the landscape.

Among the new entries there is also

a beach on Lake Maggiore

, which raises the flags flying over the Italian lakes to 17.

Here are the 14 award-winning beaches, starting right from the lake one and going down to Sicily.

It is

Cannobio

, on the north-western shore of Lake Maggiore, the only lake resort among the new entries.

It is located in Piedmont, almost on the border with Switzerland, and joins two other locations on Lake Maggiore, Cannero Riviera and Gozzano.

In reality, the Lido of the village, which since 2011 has also been the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club, had already had the Blue Flag on other occasions.

This summer the blue banner will also fly in

Riccione

, the fashionable resort in the province of Rimini, whose beach has been recognized as one of the 9 best on the Romagna Riviera.

The equipped beach, sandy and golden, is more than 6 kilometers long but the awarded part is the central-southern one.

Also on the Riviera, but in the province of Forlì-Cesena, San Mauro Mare

,

the birthplace of the poet Giovanni Pascoli

and a holiday resort between the Rubicon, the Via Antica Emilia and the sea

, was also awarded for the first time .

In Tuscany Pietrasanta

conquers the prestigious banner;

the city of marble and capital of Versilia, in the province of Lucca, has a coastal hamlet awarded for the quality of water and services: it is Marina di Pietrasanta, with a sandy beach over four kilometers long.

The new entry in the Marche is Porto Recanati

, in the province of Macerata, and joins the other 17 regional Blue Flags.

The Marche locality is one of the most famous of the Conero Riviera with 9 kilometers of beaches, clean waters, a pedestrian promenade, cycle paths and a seaside village with its castle.

Alba Adriatica, in Abruzzo,

also earns the blue banner

: known by the name of "silver beach" for its wide and sandy shoreline with metallic shades, it is characterized by equipped beaches and crystalline waters.

The Blue Flag returns to

Ispani, a medieval village in the Cilento

, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park: its beach is located between the Gulf of Salerno and that of Policastro, and is added to the other 18 awarded beaches among the most beautiful in Campania .

Two beaches in Calabria get the Blue Flag this year:

Caulonia, in the province of Reggio Calabria

, which extends from the Ionian coast to the Calabrian Serre dell'Aspromonte, and

Isola di Capo Rizzuto

, a jewel in the province of Crotone, also known for its Fortress Aragonese.

There are 3 award-winning beaches

in Puglia

: one is

Castro

, along the eastern coast of the Salento peninsula, a medieval village that dominates the Lido di Castro Marina;

Ugento

, also in Salento, with a stretch of coast overlooking the Ionian Sea and beaches protected by the dunes, among the most evocative of the region.

The third location is

Rodi Garganico

, in the Gargano National Park: connected to the Tremiti Islands, it is famous for its golden beaches lapped by crystal clear water.

The last two new entries of this year are located in the islands:

Budoni in Sardinia and Furci Siculo in Sicily

.

The first overlooks the north-east coast of the province of Sassari and is a dream location, with beautiful marinas such as Li Cucutti, Baia Sant'Anna, Cala Budoni and Cala Ottiolu.

The second is located along the Ionian coast, between Messina and Taormina.
