During his visit to Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz received some malice on the internet for his casual outfit on the outward journey.
Unlike his colleagues traveling with him, he wore a short-sleeved dark shirt on the train journey.
The #short-sleeved shirt trended for hours on Thursday in the short message service Twitter.
Users commented on whether the outfit was appropriate for the Kyiv trip.
The worn-out briefcase that Scholz had with him also earned ridicule.
User @larybum wrote: »Bus drivers wear short-sleeved shirts.« @DrLuetke commented: »Dressed like a gas meter reader in jeans and a short-sleeved shirt, #Scholz comes to #Kiev for talks about world peace.
My god, how embarrassing!" @Elmal96 asked, "Seriously?
Are you discussing a #short-sleeved shirt?” Some even ridiculed the whole thing.
The user @BorisNMoellers posted a photo of ex-US President Ronald Reagan in gray sweatpants and the comment: »Politicians used to know how to dress when travelling!
Ronald Reagan would never have worn a short-sleeved shirt!«
At the official appointments in Kyiv, Scholz appeared in a suit and tie, like French President Emmanuel Macron and Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
Back in February, Scholz polarized on the Internet with a casual outfit on the flight to the inaugural visit to Washington.
He came to the background discussion with the journalists traveling with him in jeans, a black T-shirt and a gray sweater.
