Matthias Giraud achieved a new feat in his speciality, ski base jumping, from an increasingly unstable serac due to global warming, at the Aiguille du Goûter, for a committed flight at an altitude of 4,000 m.
On the west face of Mont Blanc, Giraud, better known by the nickname "Super Frenchie", jumped from the Dôme du Goûter (4,304 m) with his skis to descend an 80 m serac above the rock face. de l'Aiguille, before throwing itself into the void at 4,000 m, quickly opening its light parachute wing for a three-minute flight in a risky corridor and landing on a glacier, below the Refuge du To taste.

Tristan, urban skydiver: at La Courneuve, he jumps from an 80m tower
The 38-year-old Frenchman is the very first to shine from the Aiguille du Goûter in ski base jumping, an extreme and elitist practice derived from base jumping (Base is the acronym for Building Antenna Span Bridge Earth cliff).
The base jump allows you to jump from a platform (mountain, building, bridge, etc.) for a parachute flight.
“I jumped right over the corridor to fly over a route of one of my mountain heroes, Pierre Tardivel.
I wanted to put my creative touch on this side.
I passed close to a rope of mountaineers climbing to the summit.
Two juxtaposed worlds, that of a classic approach and me, a more modern one that mixes all these disciplines,” says the sportsman.
“These are once-in-a-lifetime jumps.
I want to achieve my dreams before it's too late.
The point where I jumped is a dominant point which comes out of the serac and which has a good chance of being affected by the warming”, slips the skier, who concretized a project initiated ten years earlier.
Giraud, who caused a sensation in 2019 by becoming the first to ski base jump from Mont Blanc, had to deal with ice that threatens to break at any time, but also with the wind which increases with altitude.
"It was a rather disturbing flight, it was not the time to put on a show".
