Munich - It is a glistening pain that happens to those affected, and usually in the middle of the night: the mysterious disease "Frozen Shoulder".
This usually comes without warning, with unpleasant consequences.

After all, some are so stiff in the joints that they can no longer even grab a coffee cup, let alone hold it.

Shoulder pain at night: treat frozen shoulder with cortisone
The shoulder often hurts suddenly, which means that many people cannot initially identify where it is coming from.
But the disease is more common than expected, especially women between the ages of 40 and 70, often after menopause, are affected.
The causes of the primary form of "frozen shoulder" are not yet known, but it is said to often occur in combination with diabetes mellitus, metabolic disorders and thyroid diseases.
The secondary form, on the other hand, often occurs after an infection, after an operation or after a bone fracture.
As a result, the joint capsule and mucosa become inflamed.
The capsule thickens and narrows, over time the capsular tissue around the shoulder joint scars and sticks together.
This eventually leads to shoulder stiffness, which many sufferers experience.
Without treatment, it will heal on its own, but this can take months to years.
So that you can still sleep at night, you need an orthopedic neck support pillow. The side sleeper pillow from GIANFAR from Third of Life (advertising link) is ergonomically corrugated and adapts to your cervical spine and shoulder area.
In the first stage, the severe pain occurs due to the inflammatory reaction, and the shoulder also feels warm to hot.
When the pain decreases, everyday movements such as putting on tops are no longer so easy.
Only in the third phase does mobility gradually return.
However, if you do not want to wait forever, you can counteract this with appropriate treatment from your doctor.
Shoulder pain at night: when which therapy is used
The pain can therefore be treated well with cortisone intake.
Here cortisone is administered orally over a period of four weeks, in decreasing doses, with five days of administration, followed by a two-day break.
This allows the inflammatory reaction to be well under control.
If you are already in the second stage and are struggling with joint stiffness, only physiotherapy can help.
The shoulder capsule is mobilized with targeted exercises.
In particularly severe cases, an operation can also be carried out first, in which the capsule is severed.
The shoulder is then immediately mobile again, but you shouldn't overexert yourself or you have to have physiotherapy afterwards.
To support the healing process, you should also use a suitable pillow at night to relieve the shoulder.
