Italy's participation in the European fencing championships in Antalya begins with three medals.

On the Turkish platforms, Arianna Errigo and Alice Volpi respectively took home a silver and a bronze in foil, while a silver was also won by Luca Curatoli in the saber.

The Monza of the Carabinieri easily won the first attacks against the French Blaze (15-8) and the Polish Dlugosz (15-4).

In the quarterfinals the derby with Francesca Palumbo, won by Errigo with a score of 15-3 and then the match against the French Thibus, which the blue aimed in her favor in the final closing with four hits in a row from 11 all.

The assault for gold saw her opposed to the German Leonie Ebert, who had defeated Alice Volpi in the semifinals and who won 15-11.

For Errigo it is the second European silver, which is added to the golds of Torun 2016 and Tbilisi 2017, the silver of Novi Sad 2018 and the bronzes of Plovdiv 2009, Legnano 2012 and Montreaux 2015. For Volpi, today's one is the fourth European bronze: the Sienese born in 1992 of the Fiamme Oro had already been on the third step of the podium in the three previous editions (2017, 2018 and 2019) and started as before the ranking.

In the scoreboard of 32 she overtook the Swedish Schreiber 15-7 and then beat the Ukrainian Chentsova 15-10.

In the quarterfinals she was the most uncertain assault against the German Sauer: on 10 equal, the blue put in five hits in a row that decreed the passage to the semifinals.

Here the German Ebert won 15-9.

The other Italian foil players of coach Stefano Cerioni also did well: seventh place for Palumbo and tenth for Martina Favaretto, in turn defeated by Palumbo in the previous round.

The third Italian medal came thanks to Curatoli.

The Neapolitan of the Fiamme Oro made his debut in the main draw against his national team mate Pietro Torre, beaten 15-9, then won over the English Webb 15-7 and, in the quarters, over the Georgia standard bearer Beka Bazadze: the blue was under 8-10 in the score, but managed to recover up to 15-11.

In the semifinal with the same score came the success against the French Apithy.

In the final against Sandro Bazadze the blue got off to a good start, continuing up to 9-5, but then suffered the return of the opponent who won 15-11.
