PISTOIA - Ten newly restored paintings from the collection of Piero Bigongiari (1914-1997), who in the space of forty years had assembled a collection of paintings from the seventeenth century in Florence, will be on display from tomorrow until 25 September in the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi in Pistoia, one of the four locations of Pistoia Musei.

Restored masterpieces from the Bigongiari collection 'is curated by Monica Preti and Alessio Bertini, with the literary consultancy of Paolo Fabrizio lacuzzi.


    The exhibition takes place in nine rooms.

The first three are dedicated to the restoration campaign conducted by Intesa Sanpaolo and to the collection of Piero and Elena Bigongiari.

Alongside photographs, texts and videos there are also two works by Francesco Furini, 'Maghe temper the sword of a knight' and 'Marriage of the Virgin'.

In the following rooms exhibited Felice Ficherelli works, 'Giulia receives the bloody robe of Pompeo';

again Francesco Furini (Hagar and the angel);

Simone Pignoni, 'David and Abigail';

Giovanni Martinelli, 'Saint Agatha in prison by Saint Peter';

Giovanni Bilivert, 'Thetis hands over the arms to Achilles' and 'The Magdalene at the sepulcher comforted by the angels';

Orazio Fidani 'Silvio, Dorinda and Linco' and 'Eco and Narciso'.


    "This exhibition - explains Monica Preti - I consider a turning point first of all because I would like these restorations to mark the opening of a new season of studies on the Bigongiari collection, but also because it is an innovative and original exhibition, as it also includes of participatory activities with the community of Pistoia and its territory ".


    "The exhibition - underlines Lorenzo Zogheri, president of the Caript Foundation, to which Pistoia Musei belongs - will allow visitors to appreciate even better the value of these works, appropriately restored".
