"Tehran" explodes in our hands: the second season is disappointing Israel today

2022-06-19T05:16:34.238Z

Compared to its first season, the series rolled the Cold War into a creative espionage struggle with the goal of attracting foreign viewers, thus becoming a generic and non-unique international series

In the imaginary world of the "Tehran" series, one must feel missed by the development of the second season, which ended this weekend with a grandiose explosion and the assassination of leading characters.

Despite the intense action, viewers abandoned it, public esteem diminished, and its basic logic was lost.

Although the previous season won the Emmy International, the expectations to restore its success were in its infancy.

Tens of millions have been invested in the world of "Tehran" for ostentatious explosions, car racing, scattering skimmers and one Glenn Close.

However, while "Tehran" showed off the action, she abandoned the most important part: the story she tells.

And when drama is not drama, all that is left is just a bombastic statement predicting an all-out war;

Even if the way there is unrealistic or illogical.

Because the world of "Tehran" is run by three women in the service of the institution.

They devised a plan to eliminate the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, and carried out a series of operations in the enemy's rear using three other sub-figures.

Because in the world of "Tehran" everyone is lazy, especially the screenwriters, and the holes left in the plot are so large that enriched uranium can be hidden in them.

In the world of "Tehran" no longer seek to balance the sides of the conflict.

The narratives and agendas, under the influence of which the main characters have acted in the past, are irrelevant when the action is carried out solely on the basis of personal motives and revenge.

In the world of "Tehran" the Israelis are violent, dangerous, impulsive, ruthless and purposeful, while the Iranians as a whole are stupid and naive.

And when a cinematic enemy is hardly an unsophisticated bully, then the protagonist will have enough of an iPhone and a bottle of poisoned perfume to settle a conflict between powers.

The world of "Tehran" repeatedly corresponds with reality, and is still light years away from it because it focuses on intelligence organizations, ignoring the influence of the political echelon - those governments and ayatollahs who use the Israeli-Iranian conflict to intimidate and control their citizens.

"Tehran" rolled the Cold War into a creative espionage struggle with the aim of attracting foreign viewers, thus becoming a full-fledged international series.

Compared to the debut season, the squinting to a Western audience was manifested in some minor but significant changes.

Because it aired concurrently on AppleTV (which invested heavily in its production), Tehran preferred to reduce touching on internal conflicts, mimic political debates, and gamble on safe.

If once "Tehran" told about rebellious Iranian youths fighting for power, then this season she chose a plot with privileged and wealthy young people - which gave her the touch of a generic American youth film, built on romantic triangles, pool parties and tennis games.

The problems of "Tehran" will be the easiest to solve in a trial: a stranger will not understand it.
