Over two days, 109 students from different governorates competed in the final qualifiers (at the level of Syria) for the Arab Reading Challenge initiative organized by the United Arab Emirates.

The general coordinator of the initiative in Syria, Ali Al-Abbas, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the final qualifiers stage at the level of Syria included 109 students, and an international jury coming from the Emirates will select the best ten students among them to represent Syria at the Arab level, while the first of them will compete for the title (Champion of Reading Challenge). Al Arabi) at the events that will be held in the Emirates next October.

Al-Abbas pointed out that the results of the final stage of the reading challenge at the level of Syria will be announced within a central ceremony to be held at the end of this month, noting that the total number of students who participated in the initiative is 61099 male and female students from different governorates.

Al-Abbas revealed that the UAE (the organizer of the initiative) will, after the end of the challenge initiative, provide the libraries of a number of Syrian schools, especially in rural areas, with a large number of books, to remedy the problem of the difficulty of securing books for distant provinces and countryside.

For her part, Najwa Abu Libda, the head of the International Jury from the UAE, which is participating in the finalists’ judging in Syria, explained that the selection of the top ten, including the champion of the reading challenge at the Syrian level, is made according to specific criteria that include the student’s personality in addition to a set of questions related to the fifty books that each read Competitor and summary around.

Rola Al-Masry, a member of the International Jury, noted the level of competition for Syrian students in terms of erudition, culture, eloquence in language, spontaneity, spontaneity and improvisation, stressing that the choice between these distinguished levels will be very accurate to choose the best.

A number of participating students spoke about the importance of this initiative, as it adds positive values ​​and encouragement to them. Taqwa Allah Hamza, Taima Ibrahim and Zain Mia pointed out that their reading of this number of books within the initiative contributed to raising the level of their culture and encouraged them to read more and search for the characters of writers and authors. While Sana Aqeel and Sham Al-Bakour pointed out the role of reading in developing skills, methods of discussion and promptness of intuition.

The Arab Reading Challenge is an initiative launched by the United Arab Emirates in its sixth edition, in which Syria is participating for the first time. It is a competition for reading in the Arabic language in which students from different grades participate. Each participant is asked to read fifty books outside the curriculum.

It is noteworthy that 52 countries and more than 21 million students from 96,000 schools and 134,000 supervisors participated in the fifth edition of the challenge.
