Two people died when a small plane crashed in Central Franconia on Sunday.
The motorized aircraft with the two occupants crashed on a field around 11:30 a.m. near an airfield in the municipality of Büchenbach in the Roth district, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
The ultralight aircraft was probably on the landing approach.
The cause of the crash is still unclear.
Experts from the Federal Office for Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) arrived at the crash site on Sunday afternoon, but were initially unable to get to work.
A police spokesman said it was unclear whether the propellant for the plane's emergency parachute was damaged in the accident.
Before the dead can be recovered and the wreckage examined, the explosive ordnance clearance service must check it.
The crash site was therefore only cordoned off at first.
According to a BFU spokesman, the investigation into the exact cause of the accident will take some time.
"We're going to gather information for the next few days," the spokesman said.
Experience has shown that it will take around two and a half months for an interim report to be published.
