Bavaria: One dead in a storm

Train traffic in the region has been suspended, the Moosburg area has no electricity - a storm has caused serious damage in Bavaria. One person died, the information on the number of injured varies.

According to the Freising district office, one person died in a severe storm in Bavaria.

There is also one seriously injured person and one person is missing, said district spokeswoman Eva Zimmerhof in the evening.

The Moosburg area was without electricity across the board, numerous lines had been destroyed.

Train traffic between Freising and Landshut via Moosburg/Isar was suspended up to and including Tuesday.

The police had previously reported several injuries in Moosburg, Upper Bavaria, and the surrounding area.

The district advised because of the power outage: “Also as a precaution, inform your neighbors and provide help if necessary.

If necessary, the fire brigade can be alerted by triggering the siren – at the equipment house/town hall.

... Reduce your power consumption via rechargeable batteries and batteries to the bare minimum.«

Dozens of fallen trees

The police had been called to numerous operations with injured people, said a spokesman for the police headquarters in Ingolstadt.

"Au, Attenkirchen, Nandlstadt, Appersdorf was also hit hard," said District Fire Councilor Manfred Danner, who is the local operations manager in the Freising district.

A dozen fallen trees were reported in Lower Bavaria by the early evening, said a spokesman for the Lower Bavaria police headquarters in Straubing.

In addition, a skylight was destroyed by hail.

The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned of extreme thunderstorms in Upper and Lower Bavaria.

On Monday afternoon there is a risk of thunderstorms of warning level 4 out of 4 until 6 p.m., according to a statement.

The DWD warned of lightning, uprooted trees and damaged roofs.

Flooding of basements and streets as well as local flooding of streams and small rivers are possible.

Landslides could also occur.

Staying outdoors should be avoided.
