A man from Baden-Württemberg died in a crash with his paraglider in the Austrian Alps.

As the police announced on Sunday evening, the 57-year-old was hit by a gust of wind in the afternoon immediately after the start near Greifenburg in Carinthia.

The pilot was initially able to bring his aircraft back under control, but then got caught in another gust.

The parachute collapsed and fell to the ground in a spiral motion from a height of about eleven meters.

According to police, the man hit his head on a tree stump and lost his helmet.

A friend who saw the accident tried to revive him and called the emergency services.

When a rescue helicopter with an emergency doctor arrived on board, the man was said to be dead. According to the police, the casualty came from the city of Ladenburg in the Rhein-Neckar district.
