(ANSA) - BOLOGNA, 20 JUN - Continue with irrigation, despite the situation being "red light".
This is the indication from the Po observatory that it met to tackle the problem of drought.
The proposal arrived is that of a transitional measure to balance the use of the remaining water: reduce withdrawals by 20% to continue irrigation, but guarantee the flow of water also to the Delta.
The continuity of irrigation is guaranteed, at the moment, thanks to the withdrawal from the lakes.
This was stated by Meuccio Berselli, general secretary of the Po basin Authority, at the end of the meeting on the observatory on the river.
"Having reached these levels - says Berselli - every decision brings with it margins of criticism but the goal, from a large area perspective, is to minimize the damage as much as possible pending potential administrative additions to the territories and governing bodies".
The categorical imperative, said Berselli speaking to the regions, companies and all the subjects involved "is to safeguard, as recommended by the community directives, the scope of the Great River by rapidly implementing all possible actions to make the use of the resources available along the riverbed as effective and profitable as possible, managing the water more dynamically.
The extreme drought with high water severity forces us to a so-called 'red light' that would block all types of use, allowing only drinking water. But thanks to some targeted measures useful, for what remains in terms of available quantity, we ensure the continuity of irrigation, albeit to a limited extent, to agriculture and supply for the habitat, maintaining, as the first objective, thedrinking water ".
