On Sunday there was a police operation against an armed man in the old town of Düsseldorf.
The 53-year-old had handled a 20-centimetre-long knife, witnesses had reported.
When the officers who had been called arrived on site, the man, who was obviously mentally disturbed, was carrying the gun in his waistband.
Because he did not respond to the police officers' speeches, a so-called DEIG, a distance electro-pulsation device, was used, the police report said.
The man was overpowered by the use of the taser.
He was initially treated on an outpatient basis in a clinic before a medical officer ordered his placement in a psychiatric clinic.
The knife was secured by the police on Sunday afternoon.
At the time of the operation, the no-gun zone in the old town was not in force.
However, it was still a violation of the Weapons Act.
