Within the framework of the joint cooperation agreement between the Syrian Organization for Persons with Disabilities (Amal) and the University of Damascus, the organization hosted today a clinical skills test (OSCI) for students of the fourth and final year in the Department of Speech and Language Assessment at the Faculty of Health Sciences in an experiment that is the first of its kind for the college, from which the first batch will graduate. general.

The (OSCI) exam is an examination of the clinical skills of students and graduates, the level of performance and competence they enjoy with regard to communication skills and clinical examination, as these exams at the graduation stage are one of the basic conditions for accreditation programs in universities, according to what was stated by Dr. Samer Mohsen, Vice Dean of the College of Science Head of the Department of Speech and Language Orthotics at the college.

Dr. Mohsen explained that the exam system consists of stations or centers, each station containing a specific question or a realistic clinical case among the cases that the student learned in his studies, as it requires him to perform a specific diagnostic or treatment stage within a specified time and it is completely similar to the work he will perform in life Realism when practicing this profession, pointing out that the exam paragraphs were selected by external supervisors professors and specialists from the Amal Organization.

Mohsen pointed out that the main objective of the exam is to qualify the student to be able, after graduating and passing the OSCII test, to practice his profession as a speech and language therapist and be fully prepared to practice clinical therapy.

The Director of Academic and Training Programs at the Syrian Organization for Persons with Disabilities (Amal) indicated that the organization’s hosting of the OSC test comes within the framework of the organization’s continuous academic support for the programs of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Damascus, which is a license in speech and language assessment, noting that the organization performed its role during The past four years have provided field training for students and currently it is continuing by hosting the OSCII test, where the appropriate place and specialists have been prepared and an experiment has been conducted for the exam in order to avoid any gaps that may occur and ensure the perfect implementation of the exam.

Abbas pointed out that the experience will be evaluated from all sides in order to develop and benefit from it in the later stages.

Dr. Zuhair Marmar, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, explained that the (Al-Oskey) experience is a global experience that exists in most similar colleges in the universities of the world, but the College of Health Sciences, despite its modernity, had great determination to implement it this year in cooperation and coordination between the Syrian Organization for Persons with Disabilities (Amal) and the University of Damascus, thanks to Thus, the college was able to overcome all obstacles and secure all the tools and supplies to go through this experience, including the intellectual and scientific rehabilitation of students.

And Marmar indicated that the OSC test experience is an important opportunity for the college to get to know the students’ level and the differentiation among them and in order to evaluate the college’s outputs in the field of speech and language assessment and to find out if there is a need for any modification in the study programs or the study plan for this department.
