A 15-year-old boy died in a shooting near the Moechella Music Festival, in an area considered the African-American heart of the capital full of restaurants, bars and shops.
Three people were injured in the shooting, including a police officer.
The police had reported an earlier incident to the evening, after a fight broke out, then a second, when people began to scatter and some people were trampled.
The authorities had thus decided to end the concert for safety reasons.
The festival included a series of concerts on the occasion of Juneteenth, the new national holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the USA.
In another shooting, also in Washington DC, a 16-year-old was killed.
A 16-year-old girl was killed in a separate shooting in Washington DC, in the southeastern area, where the crime and violence rate is highest.
This was reported by the police, who have not yet identified the person responsible.
