According to the police, the victim was 15 years old: A youth died from gun violence on the fringes of an unregistered music event in Washington DC.
Several hundred people had gathered on the street to listen to music that played from a truck, among other things.
According to the police, there was a dispute among those present.
Shortly afterwards panic broke out in the crowd - many ran away, fell and had injured their legs.
It is still unclear what caused this panic, it said.
A little later shots were fired.
It was initially unclear who submitted these.
According to the Washington Post, a police officer was injured by the leg, and two other people were treated in the hospital for gunshot wounds.
Police said they found several weapons.
Police Chief Robert Contee called the gun violence "unacceptable".
"We have a child who was killed with guns today at an event that was not properly planned for the number of people who were here," City Mayor Muriel Bowser was quoted as saying by CNN.
The incident took place in a popular nightlife area around U Street in Washington.
Fatal incidents involving firearms continue to occur in the city.
After a massacre in an elementary school in the US state of Texas in May, there is again a debate in the US about rampant gun violence.
An 18-year-old with an assault rifle shot dead 19 children and two teachers in an elementary school in May.
Numerous people then demonstrated in Washington and other cities for stricter gun laws.
A bipartisan group in the US Senate recently agreed on proposals for better protection against gun violence.
