An armed security guard who was on a flight of Jordanian aviation Jordan Aviation pulled out his gun and waved it at a group of passengers after they allegedly tried to enter the cockpit, in order to talk to the captain.

It is estimated that the incident took place several months ago, but the video documenting it was released only these days, and as expected - quickly went viral on the net.

No one is known to have been injured during the incident, but the full circumstances of what happened in the air have not yet been officially announced.

Threat of a lawsuit to those who spread rumors

What is known for sure is that the controversy occurred on a plane operated by the Jordanian airline, on a flight from Saudi Arabia to Nigeria as part of a Muslim pilgrimage package called Omra.

According to several reports, the plane was forced to change its flight path, and not land at its original destination but at another city in Nigeria.

Due to this, the passengers wanted to evacuate the captain, but as mentioned, the armed security guard prevented them from doing so and pulled out his gun in front of them.

In a statement posted on her Twitter account, the Jordanian airline noted that the incident took place "several months ago".

It was further reported that "passengers tried to reach the cockpit to talk to the flight captain, which is prohibited by law. The security man who accompanied the flight prevented them from reaching the cockpit."

In addition, the airline said it would sue anyone who spread false rumors about the incident.

Jordanian lesson from 1970: Hidden security guards on the plane

Most Jordanian airlines employ armed security guards on their international flights.

For example, the Jordanian national airline, Royal Jordanian - which is also well known to many Israelis - has employed security guards on planes since 1970, and continues to do so today, although it has stated that this is an expensive and even dangerous matter, as "A shootout in the air is a worrying situation."

The reason why Jordanian airlines are careful to employ security guards on planes is a lesson from incidents that occurred on September 6, 1970. On the same day, members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine tried to hijack three passenger planes.

They managed to hijack two planes - a TWA flight from Frankfurt and a Swissair flight from Zurich - that were on their way to New York (another attempt to hijack the EL AL plane from Amsterdam was thwarted).

Three days later, members of the terrorist organization hijacked another plane, belonging to the BOAC company.

These three flights were diverted to Zarqa Airport in Jordan, also known as "Dawson Airport".

At this site, the passengers were held on planes for six days, and released as part of a deal between the Jordanian government and the hijackers.

During the incident, the terrorists blew up the empty planes.
