The Biden administration will today announce a
near-total ban on the use of anti-personnel mines
.
This was reported by the White House in a note.
The new rules, it is specified,
will align the United States with the Ottawa Convention
, the international treaty that prohibits the use, storage, production and transfer of mines.
Under the new policies, the United States "will not develop, manufacture or acquire" anti-personnel mines;
they will not export or transfer them except for activities related to the detection or removal of mines and for the purpose of destruction ", reads the note from the White House, which states that the use of anti-personnel mines
remains in force on the Korean peninsula
for the "defense and protection of South Korea".
