Chicken salami is on it, pork is in it - "That's fraud!"

What's on the front isn't just inside.

For the Hamburg consumer center in the case of a chicken salami with pork, a scandal, the manufacturer sees himself in the right.

What can sometimes lead to strange fire brigade deployments in Hamburg whets the appetite of the average German: after all, almost seven million tons of meat were consumed in the Federal Republic last year.

Despite the vegan hype, supermarket shelves are still full of packaged meat for the home fridge.

The selection in the supermarket is more diverse than ever before: bear sausage, cheese sausage or black pudding – there are hardly any limits to the wishes of a meat product, every target group will find their product.

But anyone who innocently picks up “poultry salami” on the supermarket shelf has to look twice: because the product from the manufacturer Wiltmann also contains pork.

The manufacturer sees itself in the right, consumer protection in Hamburg is raging, as reported by 24hamburg.de.

"Pork salami with pork bacon?

Yes, they actually exist!” the Hamburg consumer advice center opens its general statement with the product from Franz Wiltmann GmbH & Co. KG, a meat products factory from Versmold/Peckeloh in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Specifically, it is about the poultry salami that is in the refrigerated section of supermarket chains such as Rewe.

“When it comes to this chicken salami, many consumers probably think that it only consists of chicken meat.

But if you look at the back of the pack, you will notice that this chicken salami was a winner.

What a mess!” criticized the Hamburg consumer advice center, which recently called for “No tax on fruit and vegetables”.

The demand of the self-appointed consumer advocates in the case of chicken salami with pork: "We think the addition 'with pork bacon' should be marked on the front of the packaging."

Not everyone likes it: Pork bacon in the “poultry salami”.

Poultry salami with pork: Managing director sees customers "fully informed"

The consumer advice center refers to a decision by the Administrative Court in Münster: The court decided that such a case – such as chicken salami with pork – was misleading.

“So that consumers are not misled, it should be marked on the front if meat from other animal species is included.

Unfortunately, this judgment is not yet final, as the defendant sausage manufacturer has appealed.

So until there is a final judgment, manufacturers can unfortunately continue to trick with such information," writes the consumer advice center.

Of course, the managing director of Franz Wiltmann GmbH & Co. KG would never speak of tricks, Ingmar Ingold sees his actions as right.

Ingold responded to a 24hamburg.de request: “Consumers are fully informed by the information on our packaging.

In order to create legal certainty in this matter, we proactively brought an action for a declaratory judgment," says the managing director of Franz Wiltmann GmbH & Co. KG.

He adds that the Münster Higher Administrative Court has received an application for admission of the appeal.

"Until then, the judgment of the Minden Administrative Court will not be final".

If the Higher Administrative Court of Münster rejects the application for an appeal or, in its judgment, "assesses the legal situation differently than we do, we will adjust our information immediately," promises Ingold.

So it's all just a matter of time?

Criticism of chicken salami with pork: "Who thinks up something like that?"

The criticism of the consumer advice center unsurprisingly triggers mostly positive reactions on Facebook.

Under the corresponding Facebook post by the Hamburg consumer center there are clear statements of opinion - for both points of view.
