(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUN 21 - The European Council "invited all political leaders in Bosnia-Herzegovina to quickly implement the commitments enshrined in the" political agreement signed last June 12 in Brussels, "which will allow the country to advance decisively on its European path , in line with the priorities established in the Commission's opinion, to obtain the status of EU candidate ".
This is what we read in the draft conclusions of the European Council of 23 and 24 June, in the chapter on the Western Balkans.
The agreement reached following a meeting between the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, with the leaders of the political parties of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the members of the country's divided presidency, is necessary, the draft reads, "for the stability and full functioning of the Country and to respond to the aspirations of the population ".
Sarajevo, which submitted a formal application for EU membership in 2016, received a rejection three years after: in its opinion, the Commission outlined 14 priorities that the country must meet in view of the recognition of EU candidate status.
