France, total consensus in the EU on Kiev's candidacy

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUNE 21 - "We observed a full consensus on the question of the status of candidate country for Ukraine".

This was stated by Clément Beaune, French minister for European affairs at the end of the general affairs council.

   "Now it will be debated by the leaders but at our level European unity remains a reality," he added.

    "But this is not about immediate membership, it will be a long journey, which is why the idea of ​​the European political community: this morning we discussed some possible ways but would be complementary, not a substitute for full membership", he added.
