The corona numbers are increasing, but the free test offer for all citizens will expire in a few days. If Karl Lauterbach has his way, it should apparently only remain accessible to certain people.

According to the will of Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, access to the free corona citizen tests should be significantly restricted.

Only people with symptoms should be eligible, as well as other selected groups of people such as small children and pregnant women.

This emerges from the Ministry's "Corona Autumn Strategy", which is available to the German Press Agency dpa.

The editorial network Germany (RND) had previously reported on it.

The free offer to all citizens is only fixed until the end of June.

The paper mentions other groups and occasions for free citizen tests:

  • Preventive testing in nursing homes and hospitals

  • People with increased contact exposure, for example before major events

  • if there is a contraindication to vaccination, such as pregnancy in the first trimester

  • in the event of a spreading infection situation in a so-called hotspot

  • Refugees from Ukraine

Most recently, pressure had increased on the federal government from the federal states to quickly create a legal basis for further protective requirements in the event of a new corona wave in autumn.

Before the two-day consultations of the health ministers starting this Wednesday, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia called for an amendment to the Infection Protection Act to be presented before the summer break.

The number of infections has recently risen again.
