A German vacationer did not survive a bathing trip to Mallorca.
Police suspect he passed out in the water from heat stroke.
According to the Guardia Civil, the man swam in the sea near Santa Ponça on Monday.
A wave caught the apparently unconscious man, which is why he hit his head against a rock.
Bathers therefore tried in vain to get the man out of the water and called the rescue service.
Civil defense pulled the man out of the water.
Attempts to revive him have failed.
Where the vacationer came from Germany was not initially communicated.
There are different reports about his age.
The "Mallorca Zeitung" reports, citing the police, that the dead man is around 50 years old.
Another media report spoke of a 77-year-old.
Like large parts of Spain, Mallorca has been hit by a heat wave in the past few days.
On Monday, the maximum temperatures were still around 30 degrees.
It's not supposed to be a bit cooler until Wednesday.
