In Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, police forces found the body of a young person while looking for a missing schoolgirl.
According to officials, she was discovered on Tuesday in a tree-lined green area.
It was initially unclear whether it was the body of the wanted 15-year-old.
The cause of death was also not determined.
A police spokesman did not rule out a violent crime.
The student has been missing since Sunday night and was last seen in jeans and sneakers.
Recently, up to 50 officers were looking for clues, and a drone was also used.
In the morning, the police published a description of the teenager and intensified the search in the Fredenberg district.
Several roads were closed.
The Salzgitter police were supported by forces from the central police department and the service dog squadron, according to a statement.
The officials initially did not provide any further information about the details of the case.
