China: Xi warns against expansion of military alliances

(ANSA) - BEIJING, June 22 - Chinese President Xi Jinping warned against the "expansion" of military ties, on the eve of the virtual BRICS summit with the leaders of Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa.

Xi, in a speech at a BRICS ForumBusiness, said that "the Ukrainian crisis is a wake-up call", raising the risks of an "expansion of military alliances" and a "search for one's own security at the expense of other countries".

China, India and South Africa abstained on a UN resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while Beijing and New Delhi have strong military and energy ties with Moscow.
