French paleontologist Yves Coppens dies aged 87

Yves Coppens Palaeontologist, former director of the Musée de l'homme, led the team behind the discovery of Australopithecus Lucy


Yves Coppens is dead.

It was his editor Odile Jacob who announced the news on Wednesday.

Former director of the Musée de l'homme, professor emeritus at the Collège de France, Yves Coppens, 87, owed his notoriety to the discovery, in 1974, of Lucy, the most famous Australopithecus in the world.
