A nine-year-old apparently turned from a bather into a lifesaver at Lake Opfinger in Breisgau last weekend.
As the DLRG announced, nine-year-old Jonny-Dean saved a baby from drowning.
The incident happened on Sunday.
Accordingly, the boy had noticed how the baby was on an inflatable canoe with four children without life jackets on the water.
"When the approximately one-and-a-half-year-old child fell into the water and went under, he recognized the life-threatening situation and immediately rushed to help," the DLRG said.
The nine-year-old grabbed the child and pulled her back to the surface, where the older boy got her back into the canoe.
"Through the courageous intervention of Jonny-Dean, worse could probably be prevented," said the Life Saving Society.
It was initially unclear whether the baby had survived the events entirely unscathed.
The presumed family of the baby moved directly from the lake with the four children, so that further care or medical clarification was not possible according to the DLRG.
As the elementary school student told the Badische Zeitung, however, the baby did not swallow any water.
The next accident with a minor outcome occurred on Monday at Lake Opfinger.
A surfer suddenly collapsed on the water, but was successfully rescued by several paramedics who happened to be present.
At the weekend, several people died in swimming accidents across Germany.
