Stiftung Warentest came to different results when examining 18 shrimp products.
Customers should keep their hands off some of them.
NRW – When walking past the freezer shelves of Aldi, Lidl and Edeka, fish lovers will usually find a large selection of products.
If your mouth is watering at the thought of grilled king prawns, black tiger, white tiger, tiger prawns, party shrimp or shrimp, you should take a look at the results from Stiftung Warentest.

Stiftung Warentest: 18 shrimp tested for quality and sustainability seal
Many of the approximately 4,000 edible shrimp species are rich in protein and not particularly fatty.
The 18 raw warm water shrimp products, which Stiftung Warentest has examined more closely, come from a wide variety of manufacturers and are provided with the three sustainability seals of Naturland, ASC and EU-Bio (more test reports on RUHR24).
The shrimp from well-known brands such as Bofrost or Costa, but also in cheaper forms from Aldi, Lidl and Rewe were bought in supermarkets, discounters and organic retailers.
The price range per 100 grams is between EUR 1.47 and EUR 4.65.
Stiftung Warentest: Eleven out of 18 frozen shrimp scored “good”.
Overall, the test ran in two stages.
In the first step, the quality of the frozen shrimp was examined, paying particular attention to pollutants and germs and evaluating the taste, as RUHR24 reports.
In the second step, the testers looked at the significance of the sustainability seals for shrimp from Naturland, ASC and EU-Bio and thus the question of whether they meet their requirements for environmental protection and shrimp farming.
The result of Stiftung Warentest is clear: Although eleven of the 18 shrimp tested scored "good", behind the four products rated "satisfactory" three varieties in particular stand out negatively, which only received a "sufficient" - among them two products from Edeka.

Shrimp in the test: Stiftung Warentest discovers harmful substances in Edeka products
In the case of Edeka's shrimp tail light, the pollutant rating of 4.5 was particularly decisive for the poor placement.
Stiftung Warentest found a particularly high chlorate content in the Edeka shrimp.
The tolerable daily intake is already exhausted after the consumption of 100 grams.

, on the other hand, are incorrectly declared and have corresponding labeling deficiencies.
The image on the packaging does not match the appearance of the product.
The doneness of the “Gut & cheap” shrimps, also from Edeka, in the third last place is also given as raw, but the testers came across partially cooked animals after opening.
