Damascus, SANA- For five continuous hours, 89 teams compete today within centers in the universities (Damascus, Aleppo, Tishreen and Al-Bab).

Over the course of five continuous hours, 89 teams competed within centers in the universities (Damascus, Aleppo, Tishreen and Al-Baath) in the national final of the University Programming Competition for the year 2022, with the result of which the winning teams will qualify for the Arab regional competition to be held in Egypt later.

The National Final is the most prominent scientific event among the Syrian scientific university activities, according to the statement of Dr. Muhammad Firas Hanawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, which includes elite Syrian university students, programmers, trainers and academics working in the field of informatics.

SANA accompanied the competition and monitored the atmosphere of the competition, where Dr. Salah Al-Dawhji, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics Engineering at Damascus University pointed out that 38 teams competed in the competition at the Damascus University Center, representing the Faculty of Informatics Engineering, the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, the Virtual University and a number of private universities, pointing to the competition’s role in promoting Students' scientific, technical and mathematical abilities and skills.

Dr. Tariq Barakat, representative of the regional director of the competition in the Arab world and North Africa, said, “We supervise the competition in an administrative and scientific manner and to provide the necessary technical and technical support for it,” noting the success achieved by the competition in Syria and the achievements and advanced positions achieved by national teams in Arab and international competitions, indicating that the teams will be determined Which will qualify for the regional competition based on the total number of participating teams at the level of Syria (proportionality) with the teams in the Arab world.

From the organizational team, third-year computer engineering student Doaa Hamdan pointed out that a number of college students volunteered to organize the competition and were divided into three groups for organizational, media and technical work, where a team spirit prevailed that enabled them to overcome all difficulties.

From the media team, Rabie Mahawesh said that the competition gives the participants experience and speed of intuition in solving software issues and gives them new methods in this field, in addition to its results being a criterion for joining the most prestigious companies and universities in the world.

A number of students participating in the competition praised the atmosphere of the scientific competition and the job opportunities it provided for them. Bashar Hussein, fourth year of the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (informatics major), indicated that he participated in the competition during the past years and qualified for the Arab competition twice, and said, “It is a beautiful experience that I would advise.” Students studying in this field to participate in it because of the prospects it opens in the field of training and job opportunities.”

From the Faculty of Informatics Engineering at the University of Damascus, the fifth year student Wissam Sbenati (Software Department) pointed out that the competition gave him experience and speed in solving software problems and gave him new methods in this field, in addition to acquiring teamwork skills and cooperation in order to win and achieve an advanced position.

Each team participating in the competition consists of three members and a trainer, and the team works on one computer to solve a set of life problems programmatically within five continuous hours, where the first place will be awarded to whoever succeeds in solving the largest number of problems in the shortest time.

The competition is called the (War of Minds), and it is more than just an academic and technological competition, as it has become the ground for building a more cooperative global information society.
