Luigi Saves is the new Attorney General of the Cassation.
He appointed him the plenum of the CSM by a majority in the meeting chaired by the head of state.
Currently "deputy" of the Pg in charge Giovanni Salvi - who will retire on 9 July - Saved has got the better of his direct competitor, the Attorney General of Naples Luigi Riello.
In addition to being "the head of prosecutors", the Pg of the Cassation is the holder with the Minister of Justice of disciplinary action against magistrates and is a member by right of the CSM and its presidential committee.
"I am sure that the Attorney Saved will be able to ensure effective guidance of the Attorney General in the light of his proven professional qualities and his organizational capacity, aspects highlighted in the resolution just approved. To the same extent he will certainly be able to make a significant contribution to the work of this one. Advice".
Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the conclusion of the plenum session of the CSM, expressed his congratulations and "best wishes" to the magistrate Luigi Saves, just appointed Attorney General of the Cassation.
"I also appreciate the other participants in the selection procedure, both of undisputed professional value", added Mattarella who, as usual,
as president of the CSM he did not take part in the vote.
The head of state then reserved Giovanni Salvi, the outgoing Attorney General of the Supreme Court, who will retire on 9 July, "thanks for the activity carried out throughout his excellent career in the judiciary, particularly in the role so challenging currently held. He assumed this position - added Mattarella - in one of the most difficult periods in the history of our judiciary, ensuring balanced and authoritative management in the various areas of competence of his office, on the basis of an accurate reading of reality and norms, has demonstrated authentic autonomy, placing the utmost commitment to protect the constitutional value of the exercise of jurisdiction and its inalienable independence.
"I hope that the Superior Council of the Judiciary will continue to carry out its functions ensuring timeliness and due transparency in its decisions in the last four years. It will be months of intense work in which I will continue to follow the board activity ".
