(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 23 - A surge in infections from Covid-19, with an increase of + 58.9% in a week.

Ordinary hospitalizations (+ 14.4%) and intensive care (+ 12.6%) also increased.

It highlights the monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation for the week 15-21 June.

There is an increase in new infections (255,442) in all Italian regions.

In 105 provinces there is a percentage increase in new cases and the incidence exceeding 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 16 provinces.

Therefore, hospital indicators with the medical area show an increase of over 700 Covid beds in 10 days.

   On the other hand, deaths drop, which mark -19%.

    "On the hospital front - says Marco Mosti, Operating Director of the Gimbe Foundation - the increase in new cases has led to a reversal of the trend in hospitalizations both in the medical area (+ 14.4%) and in intensive care (+ 12.6%) ".

In particular, in the critical area, from the minimum of 183 on 12 June, the number of beds occupied rose to 206 on 21 June;

in the medical area, on the other hand, after hitting a low of 4,076 on 11 June, they rose to 4,803 on 21 June.

As of 21 June, the national employment rate for Covid patients was 7.5% in the medical area (from 3.6% in Piedmont to 17.2% in Umbria and Sicily) and 2.2% in the critical area.

    Deaths are falling again: 337 in the last 7 days (of which 52 referring to previous periods),

    The vaccination campaign has stalled: as of June 22, 6.85 million people over the age of 5 have not received even a dose of vaccine and the number of new vaccinations has decreased to 2,981 compared to 3,253 in the previous week (-8.4%).

In addition, 5.51 million Italians are without a third dose and 4.05 million are frail without a fourth dose.

The Foundation therefore calls for caution, underlining how to abolish the isolation of positives is "unscientific and risky for public health".
