Öko-Test examined 42 hair treatments.

Most of the products convince the testers.

Only five received the grade "insufficient".

They contain preservatives.

Munich - heating air, sun, sea salt, blow-drying, straightening, dyeing - our hair is always at the mercy of environmental influences in both summer and winter.

No wonder, then, if they appear brittle, dried out, lacking shine and a beautiful radiance.

Some don't care about their damaged top hair, others are looking for the right care product.

But those who have the choice also know that there are countless products that promise a lot and deliver nothing.

How good, then, some might now think that there are consumer advocates who help consumers to make the right choice.

The consumer magazine “Öko-Test” has now tackled the subject and examined a total of 42 hair treatments and hair masks.

Including 17 certified products from natural cosmetics manufacturers.

Products in different price ranges from drugstores, discounters and supermarkets were tested.

It was also assessed whether the cures contained controversial or questionable ingredients and fragrances as well as environmentally harmful substances.

Öko-Test: Questionable fragrances found in care treatments

“We can recommend 28 hair care products.

Most even with top grades.

However, nine packs fail,” writes Öko-Test on its website.

This is mainly due to questionable fragrances, possibly allergenic substances and silicones.

Five articles contain the artificially produced musk scent Galaxolid.

Tonalid was discovered in a product.

"These not only accumulate in the environment, but also in human fatty tissue," the testers warn.

This can affect the endocrine system.

That's the suspicion.

Beautiful hair is also a question of proper care.

Not all treatments are suitable for every hair.

In addition, chloromethylisothiazolinone was detected in three samples.

This is a preservative that, due to its allergenic potential, may only be used in cosmetics that are rinsed off the skin.

As a hair treatment, however, it has a significantly longer effect on the head.

"In our opinion, it's time for manufacturers to replace it," continued Öko-Test in its assessment.

The testers also found silicones in twelve of the hair treatments examined.

"The liquid plastic forms a thin film around the hair and repairs minor damage here," says the test report.

In the long run, however, they could weigh down the hair and prevent care products from getting inside the hair.

Another disadvantage: silicones only degrade slowly in the environment.

Öko-Test: A total of 28 products from natural cosmetics to conventional cures were rated “very good” and “good”.

Two winners among the care products are the 3-minute moisturizing mask from Sante and the oat regeneration treatment from Weleda.

The two products made from certified natural cosmetics received the overall rating "very good".

The repairing hair treatment from Bioturm and the organic sea buckthorn treatment from Logona also received a “very good” overall rating.

Among the conventional hair treatments, Annemarie Börlind's Hair Mask Intensive Treatment received the grade "very good".

A total of 28 products shone with the final grades "good" and "very good".
