Mosquitoes can get on your last nerve.

However, the pests can easily be scared away with simple home remedies.

Kassel – Mosquitoes can be a real nuisance – in summer they attack people and rob them of their last nerve when they fall asleep.

But with some home remedies you can drive the animals away without any problems.

An effective remedy against mosquitoes are herbs.

Mosquitoes do not like the following herbs at all:

  • mint

  • eucalyptus

  • lemon balm

  • thyme

  • basil

  • rosemary

  • lavender

One should place the herbs in pots on a windowsill and near the front door.

Then mosquitoes turn away as they approach the apartment and turn back.

Tomato plants also exude an intense smell, which mosquitoes prefer to avoid.

Anyone who has planted tomatoes in the garden does not need to be annoyed by the pests on their own property.

Showers and light-colored clothing also protect against mosquitoes.

Tips against mosquitoes: Essential oils protect against bites

In addition, essential oils are an effective protection against mosquito bites.

Lemongrass, mint, eucalyptus, cinnamon and clove aromas help on the skin.

However, you should note the information on the recommended dilution.

First, you should test the oil in question on a small area of your skin.

The reason: Some people are allergic to essential oils.

If your skin becomes red or itchy after application, you should not apply any more oil to your skin.

In addition, parents should not treat their infants and young children with essential oils.

With the help of sprays, the oils can also be distributed indoors.

The corresponding room sprays should consist of at least five percent essential oils to keep mosquitoes away for some time.

Fragrance lamps can also spread the fumes indoors.

Four drops should be enough for a room of about twenty square meters.

If you want to use a fragrance lamp in the bedroom, you should leave it on for about an hour before going to bed and switch it off just before you fall asleep.

Another tip against mosquitoes: You should not leave water in bird baths, watering cans and rain barrels for too long.

Mosquitoes like to lay their eggs in standing water.

Therefore, you should regularly change the water in the saucers of flower pots, in the paddling pool or drinking troughs.

Garden ponds also offer mosquitoes an excellent environment in which to lay their eggs.

If you don't want to do without your pond in the garden, you could create goldfish, for example.

Because: Mosquitoes are on their menu.

You can also drive away the little pests with the smoking method.

For example, you can light a few dried and ground sage leaves in a fireproof bowl.

The smoldering sage leaves give off a spicy smell that mosquitoes hate to smell.

The animals also find the smell of garlic unbearable.

Therefore, they should eat the plant more often.

Because: Later, they exhale the smell of garlic through the skin.

This reduces the risk of mosquito bites.

Bill Gates once called the Asian tiger mosquito the "world's deadliest animal".

It has been spreading in Germany for years.
