For millions of people in Germany, the 9-euro ticket should be a relief - on Sylt, however, the joy about the measure that has been in force since the beginning of June is limited in many places.
Since the introduction of cheap tickets, Sylt has also been visited by travelers who don't fit the island's posh image at all: A group of punks has been camping in the center of the island's capital, Westerland, for weeks.
Now the visitors are also dealing with the local authorities.
As reported by the »Hamburger Abendblatt«, among others, a fence was recently erected around a fountain in the center of Westerland, which was used by the punks as a meeting point.
Accordingly, the water had already been partially drained from the fountain with the thick Wilhelmine.
As the "Sylter Zeitung" reports, the municipality is also relying on even more massive barricades: the path to a private road is blocked with several concrete blocks.
According to the local newspaper, the place had previously been used for “wild peeing”.
According to the report, however, there is still a small opening in the barrier, and it is doubtful whether the measure is helpful, the newspaper wrote.
Punks have also already climbed onto the concrete blocks.
According to the "Abendblatt", the meeting on the Wilhelmine is now also causing displeasure among restaurateurs in the immediate vicinity.
"If there are 100 people shouting out there by the fountain, no more guests will want to sit on my terrace," the newspaper quoted an innkeeper as saying.
It is difficult to get into conversation with the punks because the members of the group are constantly changing and new visitors keep coming and going.
According to media reports, the authorities and trade representatives should meet at a round table on Thursday to discuss further measures.
