Rumors have long been circulating about a remake of The Last of Us.
As part of the Summer Game Fest, the new edition has now been confirmed.
It will also appear on PC for the first time.
It was already indicated, now we have the official confirmation: The remake of the PlayStation hit "The Last of Us" is coming - and later this year.
Sony and developer studio Naughty Dog unveiled the new edition during the Summer Game Fest and have already presented the first images.
Shortly before the announcement, these were already leaked on the PlayStation Direct website and Sony has let the cat out of the bag a little early.
The game will be released very soon - and not only on the PS5, but also for the first time on the PC.
The Last of Us Remake is out in September
Sony has already revealed the release date for The Last of Us Part I.
The game will
initially only appear for the PS5 on September 2nd
.
The PC version will be launched at a later date.
When exactly that will be is currently not clear.
Many fans initially wondered about the plan to develop a remake of "The Last of Us".
Finally, the original PS3 version has already received a remastered version with The Last of Us Remastered.
However, the trailer for the PS5 remake shows
how heavily the graphics have been overhauled and aligned with The Last of Us Part II
.
The new edition should run very smoothly at 60 frames per second.
"The Last of Us II" received a PS5 update last year, which also enabled the higher frame rate - on the PS4 only 30 frames per second were possible.

"The Last of Us": The next part will be a pure multiplayer
The developers have already given a preview of the next part during the Summer Game Fest.
It won't be "The Last of Us Part III", instead it will be pure multiplayer.
Lead developer Neil Druckmann explained that the game has been in the works for two years and is a very ambitious project.
“This game is big, it's
as big as any of our single player games and in some ways even bigger
.
It has a story and the way we tell that story is very unique to this game."
In addition, the US broadcaster HBO is working on a series about "The Last of Us", in which Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey take on the roles of Joel and Ellie.
