Did you know?
Already in the womb, some of the reflexes develop that will accompany your baby even after birth, with some disappearing during the first year of life.
These reflexes are involuntary and surviving motor responses, and their function will allow the development of the baby to be monitored.
Dorit Ben Meir
, a developmental counselor in the movement, notes three prominent reflexes that you probably did not miss, and explains their meaning:
The sucking reflex - sucking
Remember the ultrasound image in which the fetus, who is now a baby, had his finger in his mouth?
This is a particularly successful expression of the suction reflex.
The reflex is manifested when the baby turns his gaze towards the bottle or breast involuntarily and can also exist from a small touch in his facial area.
Some babies have difficulty sucking, and then it is customary to stimulate their mouth area by a touch that will encourage the sucking reflex.
By the age of three months, this reflex is expected to disappear.
Moro reflex - panic reflex
It is a survival reflex that wakes the baby from laying directly on a surface when he looks like a panic or a reaction to a fall or a loud noise: his hands will be spread to the sides quickly and abruptly.
This reflex allows to expect optimal functioning of the nervous system and is expected to disappear around the age of six months.
The paratrooper reflex - the defense reflex
If you hold the baby upside down, you will notice that he extends his hands forward in order to "stop" the fall, or alternatively - he will send hands forward from a sitting position in order to stop a fall.
This reflex, unlike the previous ones, does not start in the uterus, but develops around the age of 7-9 months.
It is important to know that the reflex system has an important significance for the development of the baby, since the hands can diagnose neurological-motor and developmental problems.
Early detection and treatment by a professional may significantly improve a baby's functional abilities.
If you have identified that something is wrong and the baby does not have the three reflexes mentioned here, it is advisable to consult professionals in order to avoid developmental delays.

The Jama app was established with the aim of addressing mothers of babies from birth to age three, and centralizing for them content, activities, tips from experts and videos that will accompany them throughout this challenging period.
All the content in the app "grows" together with the baby and is precisely adapted to its developmental stages, so that the mothers receive only what is relevant to them and interests them at any given moment.
The Jama app is the place for mothers in Israel to meet and get to know other mothers around them, and create new and exciting friendships in the fascinating journey.
