Gas can also be saved when barbecuing without having to forego grilling fun.

An expert explains how the gas bottle lasts longer.

In summer, the barbecue season is in full swing.

More and more barbecue fans rely on a

gas grill

.

On the one hand, because the grill temperature on gas grills can be set precisely.

On the other hand, charcoal grills on the balcony are often frowned upon and there are even threats of fines.

A

gas bottle of 11 liters is usually enough for 15 hours of barbecue fun

.

"So if you grill once a week, you can get through the whole summer with an 11-kilogram bottle," says Markus Lau from the German Liquid Gas Association (DVFG).

However, if you follow a few tips, you can use your gas bottle for much longer.

A gas grill quickly ensures proper heat and is therefore very popular with barbecue enthusiasts.

Save gas when grilling: With these tricks, the gas bottle lasts longer

In times of rising gas prices, it can't hurt to manage your gas supply wisely, even when barbecuing.

You can even save a lot of money when grilling:

  • Choose the right location:

Set up the grill in a location that is as sheltered from the wind as possible so that it does not blow the heat out of the grill.

This only increases the grilling time unnecessarily.

  • Leave the lid of the gas grill down:

When you open the lid, a lot of heat always escapes.

Don't open it too often - this saves a lot of gas at the BBQ.

  • Don't go full throttle right away:

In contrast to juicy steaks, temperatures of 150 to 200 degrees are sufficient for tender grilled food such as vegetables, chicken or sausages.

"Temperatures of up to 280 degrees with the appropriate preheating time are only necessary to cook steaks perfectly.

Otherwise energy is lost unnecessarily,” advises Lau.

  • Roughly clean the gas grill before it burns out:

Normally, the empty gas grill, including the grate, is fully heated again at the end in order to be able to clean the grill properly.

    This is called "burn out".

If you want to save gas, however, you should remove large leftovers from the grate before the grate burns out - this will make it quicker later and you will save energy.
