“Is this a joke?
Wearing sneakers is mandatory here?
I go to work and I'm not used to wearing sneakers at work, "protests Véronique, a resident of Joinville-le-Pont (Val-de-Marne), who from the top of her high heels, learns of the existence of this comical municipal decree.
Because this Thursday, June 23, the municipality decided to impose the wearing of sneakers
in all the city.
Valid for only one day, the decree, displayed almost everywhere, is in fact a communication operation which launches the Olympic and Paralympic Day led by the town hall.
The idea is to "prepare for the adventure" of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and to raise awareness among the inhabitants of the town, labeled "Terre de Jeux 2024" about the practice of sport on a daily basis.
"It's also a slightly wacky and humorous way of recalling the sporting past of Joinville-le-Pont and encouraging residents to practice sport", explains Frédéric Gomes, municipal councilor in charge of the Joinville 2024 delegation.
And like Véronique and her long heels, many of them have missed out on the info.
Ulysse, who wears a pair of brown moccasins, had the misfortune to pass near two municipal police officers.
Caught in the act of "not wearing sneakers", the thirties had to perform a series of five squats as a ticket.
“If I had known, I would have swapped my dress shoes for sneakers.
But I found it very funny”.
