Anyone who impedes rescue workers with their vehicle for even a minute must expect a fine and a driving ban.

This was decided by the Higher Regional Court of Hamm in a judgment of March 10th.

The working group on traffic law of the German Lawyers' Association (DAV) is now reporting on this.

The case: In an accident, an elderly cyclist suffered a severe bleeding head injury.

Several first responders, the police, the accused and then the ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident.

A first responder had parked his car on the roadway, the police diagonally opposite their patrol car.

Traffic was able to flow through the remaining gap in one lane with minor tailbacks in both directions.

The accused reached the scene of the accident just before the ambulance came with blue lights and a horn.

He saw the cyclist lying on the ground with a bleeding head injury and the approaching ambulance.

Nevertheless, he stopped in front of the gap and thus blocked the way to the scene of the accident.

Only after repeated requests from the police did he drive a little further.

There he opened his driver's door again.

The ambulance, which drove on without a horn, had to stop again.

Overall, his arrival was delayed by at least a minute.

What followed was an ad.

The accused was sentenced to a fine of 110 daily rates of 65 euros each.

He was also given a four-month driving ban.
