(ANSA) - LONDON, JUN 24 - The president of the UK's conservative government resigned today in light of the heavy defeat in yesterday's by-election, which cost the party two seats, including one in the south-west of England which it held for over a century.
"Someone has to take responsibility and I have concluded that, under these circumstances, it would not be fair for me to remain in office," wrote Oliver Dowden in a letter of resignation to British Prime Minister and Tory leader Boris Johnson.
