Faced with the 7th epidemic wave of Covid-19, the rush for vaccination?

We are not there yet, but the number of appointments made on Doctolib to receive a booster dose (first or especially second) has increased significantly in recent days.

On Wednesday and then Thursday, more than 22,000 people booked a slot on the site every day.

This is almost three times more than the previous Wednesday and Thursday.

This development will affect the number of vaccinations carried out in the coming days.

In detail, around 80% of these reservations were made by French men and women aged at least 60.

The over 80s have been eligible for the second booster since March 14, the 60-79s since April 7, while the immunocompromised were already eligible since the very beginning of the year.

An adult aged under 60 and at risk of a serious form can also ask their doctor or pharmacist if it is possible to receive a new dose to “boost” their immunity.

The government beats the recall

In recent days, many doctors as well as the government insist on the need to go through the injection box for fragile people.

“Vaccination remains the most useful weapon, and I am addressing the oldest people, the immunocompromised.

I appeal to this vaccination which must be maintained, supported, ”developed Thursday facing the press the Minister of Health on borrowed time, Brigitte Bourguignon.

Aged 63, she had just received her second reminder in a Parisian pharmacy.

To date, 48% of nursing home residents and 31% of those over 80 eligible for the second booster dose have received it, according to estimates from the Ministry of Health.

“These rates are insufficient and expose a large number of elderly people to the risk of severe Covid,” warned Professor Alain Fischer, president of the Council for Vaccine Strategy, on Tuesday.

Many data show that an additional dose, often corresponding to a fourth dose, provides additional protection.

Some people, however, might prefer to wait for new vaccines tailored to the Omicron variant, expected in the fall.

"If it is necessary to have a new reminder in the fall, having one now is not a problem," wanted to reassure Professor Fischer.
