At a sports festival at a school in Velbert in the Mettmann district, at least twelve students collapsed in the midday heat.
The Velbert-Langenberg high school then canceled the festival on Thursday.
The emergency call was received by the control center around 1 p.m., but initially there was only talk of two people who had collapsed, reports the fire brigade in Velbert.
According to the fire department, a total of twelve people had to be treated by the rescue service and some were taken to nearby hospitals.
The other students were picked up by their parents.
