An Italian nun was killed in Haiti, perhaps for a robbery

Luisa Dell'Orto, a 65-year-old nun from Lecco, was killed in Haiti, probably for the purpose of robbery, in the capital Port au Prince where she worked (ANSA)


Luisa Dell'Orto, a 65-year-old nun from Lecco, was killed in Haiti, probably for the purpose of robbery, in the capital Port au Prince where she worked.

Sister Luisa had been on the island for 20 years.

According to reports from the Milanese archdiocese, Sister Luisa was the victim of an

armed attack

while on a street.

She was badly injured, she was rushed to Bernard Mevs hospital, where she died shortly after, two days before she turned 65.

In Port-au-Prince where "seur Luisa", as they called her, was an institution, since it was the backbone of Kay Chal, "Casa Carlo", in a very poor suburb of Port-au-Prince, dedicating her life and mission to baby slaves.

"Casa Carlo" was rebuilt thanks to the funds raised by the Italian Caritas with the maxi-collection of 2010, promoted by the CEI.

When she arrived in Haiti in 2002, the facility already existed.

However, it was the nun originally from Lomagna (Lecco) who took care of its

reconstruction

after the catastrophic earthquake of 2010.

Sister Luisa was born in Lomagna (Lecco) on June 27, 1957. After having attended the Liceo Scientifico of Lecco, in 1984 she graduated in History and Philosophy.

In the same year she enters the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Gospel of Lyon.

In 1987 she left for Cameroon: she lived in Salapombe, in a forest, among the Baka Pygmies, until 1990. In the meantime, the Missionary Group in support of this population arises in Lomagna.

In 1994 you obtained a degree in Theology in Switzerland.

From 1997 to 2001 she is a missionary in

Madagascar

, where in various pastoral activities, she teaches General and Special Ethics.

Since 2002 she was a missionary in Haiti.

You have also taught History of Philosophy and the Social Doctrine of the Church and served on the editorial board of a local magazine.
