Intensive therapies are stable with an increase in ordinary hospitalizations. The ISS report: reinfections rise to 8.4% in one week. The cases are 556,406 as of August 24th. Increased risk with Omicron in unvaccinated. Hope: 'those who are infected must stay at home' (ANSA)

There are 56,386 new infections from Covid recorded in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Yesterday there were 55,829.

The victims are 40, down from 51 yesterday.

A total of 258,456 swabs were performed, including antigenic and molecular, with the positivity rate of 21.8%, down from 23.4% yesterday.

On the other hand, 225 patients are hospitalized in intensive care, the same figure as yesterday.

The daily admissions are 28. The hospitalized in the ordinary wards are 5,342, or 137 more than yesterday.

REINFECTIONS RISE TO 8.4% IN ONE WEEK

In the last week, the percentage of Covid reinfections out of the total reported cases was 8.4%, an increase compared to the previous week (7.5%).

This was revealed by the extended report published by the Higher Institute of Health in which it is emphasized that from 24 August 2021 to 22 June 2022 556,406 cases of reinfection were reported, equal to 4.0% of the total cases notified.

The analysis of the risk of reinfection starting from 6 December 2021 (reference date for the start of the diffusion of the Omicron variant) highlights an increased risk in the unvaccinated, in women and in the younger age groups.

In this phase of the Covid trend in Italy, characterized by the circulation of highly transmissible variants "there has probably been a sharp increase in the number of people who have had an infection not notified to the surveillance systems for reasons related to underdiagnosis or 'self-diagnosis'. This could lead to an underestimation of the incidence rate, and therefore of the relative risk, and vaccination efficacy ".

The efficacy of the vaccine (percentage reduction of the risk in vaccinated over unvaccinated) in the Omicron prevalence period (from January 3, 2022) in preventing Sars-CoV-2 infections is equal to 54% in those who have had the booster dose ( 40% in 90 days from the completion of the vaccination cycle, 31% between 91 and 120 days, and 46% after 120 days).

On severe disease it is 86% in vaccinated with a booster dose (69% in vaccinated with a full course for less than 90 days, 68% for 91 and 120 days, and 71% for more than 120 days).

Since the beginning of the epidemic, 4,006,177 cases in the population 0-19 years of age have been diagnosed and reported to the integrated Covid surveillance system, of which 19,398 hospitalized, 428 hospitalized in intensive care and 57 deceased.

The Higher Institute of Health notes this in the extended report published today which integrates the weekly monitoring.

Compared to the new monitoring data, the incidence rate and hospitalization rate are increasing in all age groups for this population "although - the ISS stresses - the data referring to the last week are to be considered in of consolidation ".

It is also down compared to the previous week, reports the

Iss in the report - the percentage of cases reported in the school-age population (13%) compared to the rest of the population.

A picture that sees in the last week, 19% of school-age cases diagnosed in children under 5, 30% in the 5-11 age group, 50% in the 12-19 year group.

HOPE: 'WHO IS INFECTED MUST STAY AT HOME'

The bulk of the restrictions have gradually been overcome and revisions are not on the agenda, the challenge is to focus on the responsibility of individuals, but those who are infected must stay at home: isolation do not argue.

Interviewed by Repubblica, the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza focuses on the importance of individual behavior.

Like the mask in some cases.

The most vulnerable must always be protected, and the vaccination campaign will restart with the autumn calls, involving as much as possible the local authorities - family doctors and pharmacies - and with the reopening of some large hubs.
